Freida McFadden’s books have consumed my ‘Recently Read’ list for months now, starting with The Housemaid series and, more recently, Never Lie. Deadline reported the upcoming book adaptation is set to have some familiar faces in the main roles, including Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and most recently, Brandon Sklenar.
McFadden is a New York Times bestselling psychological thriller author. She has published over 25 books in her career, with The Housemaid series becoming popular throughout social media platforms since its publication in 2022. She has since published two more books in the series following Millie’s journey as a housemaid in wealthy family homes as well as a short story.
Deadline announced the adaptation in April 2023 following the book’s continuous place on the bestselling charts.
The most recent update of the Lionsgate film set Sydney Sweeney to play Millie, Amanda Seyfried to play Nina, and Brandon Sklenar to play Andrew. The casting announcement received mostly positive reviews from fans on social media with one fan commenting, “From Atlas to Andrew? 😭” referring to Sklenar’s previous book adaptation role in Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us.
One fan noted Giacomo Gianniotti should be cast next to play Enzo. Gianniotti, an Italian-Canadian actor, is best known for his recurring role in Reign and Grey’s Anatomy.

Some fans are worried a film adaptation won’t do the book justice, saying, “I really really hope that the story is the same as the book because it’s already amazing. I’ve seen too many movies that were based on books but completely different and turned out to be bad.”
Regardless of fan reactions, the movie seems to pack a star-studded cast with big names for the characters and even bigger names for the creators. Paul Feig, known for directing hits including Bridesmaids (2011) and Ghostbusters (2016), is set to direct the film with Rebecca Sonnenshine, a producer on The Boys and The Vampire Diaries, doing the screenplay.
McFadden recently published The Housemaid’s Wedding, a short story that fits between books two and three of the series, on November 4, 2024. Sitting at around 84 pages, the book fills in the missing pieces between book two’s ending and book three’s start. Readers of the series know there is quite a big time jump, so we are curious to read what happened in Millie’s life around that time.

Grab a copy of The Housemaid here before the upcoming film adaptation releases. As of now, a release date has not been set.
