While it might sound crazy to think 2025 is so close, we are already anticipating what books are releasing in the new year. We did some digging, and we are sharing it with you so you don’t have to go looking for new books to read in a few months.

This list is the perfect blend of thrill, romance (dark and light), adventure, and even loss. Seven books should have you about a third (or halfway) to your Goodreads reading goal too. New books and goal setting? A win, win!

Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab

Image via Amazon

Publish date: June 10, 2025

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue is still, to this day, one of my favorite books of all time. Not much has been revealed about Schwab’s upcoming novel. Even the cover is still a secret as of now. We do know that there is a limited first print run. This means that all first edition copies will be signed by Schwab. All that has been revealed about the book so far is this:

“Santo Domingo de la Calzada, 1532. London, 1837. Boston, 2019. Three young women, their bodies planted in the same soil, their stories tangling like roots. One grows high, and one grows deep, and one grows wild. And all of them grow teeth.”

Ominous? Yes. Are we on the edge of our seats ready to preorder? Also yes.

Boys with Sharp Teeth by Jenni Howell

Publish date: April 8, 2025

There is nothing quite like revenge mixed with dark desire and even darker secrets. This new YA novel follows seventeen-year-old Marin James at Huntsworth Academy. But things take a dark turn when her cousin’s body is found in a creek close by the school.

Austen at Sea by Natalie Jenner

Publish date: May 6, 2025

What would you do if you met the last surviving brother of Jane Austen? Charlotte and Henrietta Stevenson are about to find out. Set in Boston during 1865, the two sisters begin a secret exchange of letters with Sir Francis Austen, who is now in his nineties. The last of Jane Austen’s siblings invites the pair to England. But they aren’t the only ones he has been talking to. A group of brothers in Philadelphia also received the same invitation.

Capitana by Cassandra James

Publish date: February 4, 2025

This is the first time we are being exposed to the word “romantasy.” Anyone else? We love a good romantic fantasy especially during the cold months. Capitana will be the first in a duology by Cassandra James. Ximena Reale prepared her whole life to join a group of sea hunters who track down pirates. But one thing might stop this— Her parents were pirates and executed when her and her sister were young, damaging their family name forever. Whoops. And what is a romantasy without, you guessed it, romance! Ximena is going head to head with her annoyingly handsome classmate, Dante, to get the one cloak available.

Night Swimming by Aaron Starmer

Publish date: April 29, 2025

A ‘90s YA novel with a twist? Yes, please. Set in 1994, this summer romance turns out to be nothing you’d expect. Trevor and his friends have just graduated high school and his crush, Sarah, has a summer mission for them. They are going to swim every pool in town before the summer is over, no matter what. But things take a turn when they find a natural pool in the woods and weird things begin to happen.

The Filling Station by Vanessa Miller

Publish date: March 11, 2025

Miller’s book sits during a time of great loss in American history— The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Margaret and Evelyn have been in the Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma, their whole lives. Evelyn dreams of the East Coast to study fashion, and Margaret wants to teach in their home town. The Tulsa Race Massacre is nothing they ever imagined happening. They flee along what we now know to be Route 66 on a journey you must read.

This is a Love Story by Jessica Soffer

Image via Amazon

Publish date: February 4, 2025

February is looking like a big month for book releases, and thank goodness, because we don’t want to wait too long. Get ready for an emotional roller coaster that will have you finishing this book in a few days. It’s been fifty years, and Jane and Abe still come out to Central Park. Through their young love, time as parents, and even throughout their career highs, Central Park is their constant— But not now. Remember when we mentioned emotional rollercoaster? This is it. Jane is dying, and Abe is retelling the story of their love. This is a Love Story pays tribute to New York City, romance, and loss.
