There is no denying the tight hold Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus have on us. And sometimes, when the weather is just right, and you can hear the wind blowing outside with the sun shining, these movies are great to have on the TV. But when I think Halloween movie night, these are the ones I’m referring to.
Beware! They are not for the faint of heart!
I’m positive you’ve seen the popular Facebook meme about scary movies. It’s been sent to me a few times, which inspired this article. Whether you are a Halloweentown lover or an Exorcist lover (you can absolutely be both), sometimes a Halloween spooky movie night looks different for everyone.

I’ll admit when I saw this, my brain immediately went to the scene from Scream (1996) by Skeet Ulrich who plays Billy Loomis.

It’s such an iconic scene. Here are eight movies to watch for a very spooky movie night.
Trick ‘r Treat (2007)
This bloody Halloween movie will have you leaving your jack-o-lanterns lit all Halloween night.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
A classic. It’s such a classic.
Scream (1996)
If you haven’t guessed, this is my favorite movie of all time. It is playing in my home whether it’s October 31 or the middle of summer.
Scream VI (2023)
The Scream movies age like fine wine. The latest 2023 film starring Jenna Ortega had Ghostface roaming the streets of N.Y.C.
Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)
You might know him from Harry Potter as Sirius Black, but first, he was Count Dracula. Gary Oldman stars in this incredible adaptation of Bram Stoker’s popular novel.
The Craft (1996)
This cult classic, feminist movie was way ahead of its time. It also came out the day I was born. Not useful information by any means, but incredibly important for you to know!
Halloween (1978)
If any of these movies will keep you up at night, it is this one.
Jennifer’s Body (2009)
All movies before this walked so Jennifer’s Body could run. In the past few years, this movie has resurfaced while gaining more and more popularity for the iconic film it is.
