Emily Henry Announces Upcoming Book ‘Modern Classic’

Bestselling author Emily Henry announced the title and release date of her seventh novel on her Instagram earlier this morning. 

Between the Emily Henry book announcement and a new Taylor Swift single, the girls are having a fantastic Tuesday. Henry’s upcoming novel Modern Classic releases April 6, 2027. The novel is her seventh after taking a year off. The book is said to be inspired by old Hollywood, which Penguin Random House describes as “a radiant getaway to remember.”

Not long after the announcement, the book went live on Penguin Random House and Barnes & Noble’s website for pre-order. Signed copies and hardcovers are $32 each. The cover has not been revealed, and the book is 432 pages. The genre is listed as Women’s Fiction and Contemporary Romance —two hats Henry knows how to wear well.

Movie theater signs across the states had Henry’s book title and release date up, according to posts shared on the author’s Instagram story. As a gigantic fan of Henry (with a signed copy of Happy Place that reads “From one Emily to another”), I’m shocked the news wasn’t sent via her Grocery List newsletter. The last update was July 30, 2026, when Henry shared an update.

“In absolutely classic Emily fashion, it’s been a while. There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes, but the most important thing is that I’ve been writing a lot. I’m deep into my book for 2027 (assuming nothing unexpected happens), and I’m starting to really understand what it wants to be and why I needed to write it, which is always an exciting and nerve-racking moment for me, when I start to see the possibility of something but also the gap between where it is now and where I want it to be before I give it to you,” said Henry on Substack.
